We
face new quality requirements
Working within
the road marking business means fulfilling a lot of
different quality requirements. The objective is to
constantly increase traffic safety. In 2006, the Highways
Agency in Poland initiated new requirements for horizontal
road markings. These requirements, D-07.01.01, raised
the standards for retro-reflection from 100 mcd/m*lx
to 150 mcd/m*lx. On bigger roads, new requirements were
introduced for wet visibility.
These new requirements have meant that Cleanosol, together
with the Polish transport research institute, has tested
new road marking products like waterborne paint and
thermoplastic in order to find the optimal solution.
These new products are tested to EN 1824. The process
to get these new products approved in Poland takes some
patience, as well as quality products.
The Polish process to achieve an approval involves many
laboratory tests as well as road tests. During a 12-month
period the trial road markings are evaluated. Each road
marking must fulfill quality requirements for daytime
visibility, skid resistance, retro-reflection and durability.
A visit to the manufacturer is also part of the approval
process.
New requirements on road markings is just one step on
the way to increasing traffic safety in Poland. Cleanosol
